Our father: a Jewish prayer
This prayer is obviously the fundamental prayer of the "Christian world". But before being a Christian prayer, it is a Jewish prayer.
In the Sermon on the Mount, "Jesus reviews what are called acts of righteousness in Judaism. To be a" good Jew, "one must perform acts of righteousness. Among these are alms, fasting, the fact that one should not be attached to riches and finally prayer.
Jesus deals with these different components which in Hebrew is called "tzedakah", that is to say the right way to behave before God.
Then he will give instructions on the prayer, before teaching the prayer itself. It is not enough to pray correctly, it is also necessary to pray in a right way. Jesus will clarify what is this correct way of praying.
